On Saturday, January 7th, Franciscan Charities held its Annual Coat Drive. Despite the snowy weather, hundreds of people lined up early in the morning. Volunteers greeted everyone with hot chocolate and an abundance of homemade cookies. Each adult or family was assigned a personal shopper to help them select a warm coat, scarf, hat, gloves, and socks.
The hard work of many volunteers made the day a success, including the North Arlington High School Service Club, who came to set-up earlier in the week. On the day of the event, seasoned volunteers from the Alpha Zeta Alumnae Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority returned to help, along with the Oratory Prep High School Varsity Boy’s Basketball Team and their coaches, who volunteered for the first time. Both groups were incredibly helpful and worked hard to ensure a successful day. In addition, many individual volunteers participated, some who come every year and some new, and helped those in need to shop for winter wear and keep the day organized and fun.
Two special thank yous to Caroline Tong for being the event photographer and Colin Cunningham for baking hundreds of delicious cookies.
